02 Our Services

Our Residential and Commercial Tree Services in Dunellen, NJ

At Wayne’s Tree Service, we offer trusted, professional tree care for both homeowners and commercial properties throughout Dunellen, NJ.

Tree Removal Service

Tree Removal

Planned removal is always cheaper than emergency removal. In a storm you are paying for night work, traffic control and a crew pulled off another job — and the tree has usually already done the damage you were trying to prevent.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

We prune to ANSI A300 — no topping, no stripping the inner growth. Topping a tree does not make it safer; it forces weak, fast regrowth that is more likely to fail in five years than what you started with.

When to prune, by species
Stump Grinding and Removal

Stump Grinding & Removal

A decaying stump is a reservoir for root-rot fungi, and those do not stay put. If the tree came out because of disease, leaving the stump next to healthy trees of the same species is a bad trade.

Tree & Shrub Planting service

Tree & Shrub Planting

Planting the same species your neighbors have is how a street loses its canopy all at once. Emerald ash borer taught that lesson expensively across New Jersey. We suggest a mix rather than a monoculture.

Land Clearing Service

Land Clearing

Most of what comes off a clearing job can be chipped on site and stay as mulch, which saves you haulage. What cannot be chipped, we take away.

Photograph everything before it moves, if you safely can. Insurers ask, and the difference between a paid claim and a disputed one is often the pictures nobody took.

Dunellen Regulates From Just 2.5 Inches — the Lowest Threshold We Work Under

Dunellen rewrote its tree chapter in 2024 and amended it again in March 2025, and the threshold is genuinely low: a permit is required for any tree of 2.5 inches DBH or more. Most towns near here start at six. For a house that is already built, you give the Construction Code Official a sketch showing where the trees are, their trunk size and species, and that office decides.

The fee is $25 for an existing residential property. Replacement runs from one tree back up to four for anything 33 inches or over, planted within twelve months and looked after for two years. Residents removing fewer than four trees over a five-year period are exempt, as are hazard trees — dead, dying, badly damaged, or confirmed a threat by a licensed tree expert.

  • Permit required from 2.5 inches DBH — lower than most towns near here
  • Fee: $25 for an existing residential property, $75 per acre otherwise
  • Residents removing fewer than four trees in five years are exempt
  • Hazard trees exempt with written justification
  • Replacement: 1 to 4 trees by size, planted within twelve months
  • Administered by the Construction Code Official, (732) 968-3323

Wayne’s Tree Service did an excellent job! They removed two large spruce trees for us. The quote was very fair, and they were able to schedule the job the very next day.
