Tree Removal
Green Brook has two very different halves: steep wooded ridge lots and low ground near the brook. Both make removal awkward. We rig off the slope or bring the crane in, whichever the site allows.
Our Tree Removal Experts
Wind takes limbs on Green Brook’s high lots while wet ground quietly rots roots on the low ones. Tree service in Green Brook, NJ starts by telling the two apart, then removals, pruning, stump grinding or storm work.
A Green Brook tree can look fine and still be failing at the root, so we tell you what we find before we quote a removal. You get a written price and a date we keep, from a company registered with the New Jersey Board of Tree Experts and running under Peter Ahlert’s operator license.
Tree removal in Green Brook is often a root-failure job rather than a storm job, which means the tree comes out before it goes over rather than after. Pruning and crown reduction handle the ones still worth keeping. Stumps are ground below grade, and the brush is chipped where it lands rather than dragged across the lawn.
Green Brook’s dramatic elevation change (from about 40 feet on the valley floor to 538 feet at Washington Rock) creates two distinct service environments.
Valley properties along Green Brook stream face recurring flood damage to silver maples, sweetgums, and pin oaks with compromised root systems. Ridge properties on the mountain require management of dense hardwood canopy dominated by chestnut oak, red oak, and black birch.
Hurricane Floyd (1999), Irene (2011), and Ida (2021) each caused severe flooding in the low-lying areas and wind damage on the exposed ridge. Our services include hazard tree assessment, crown reduction, emergency response, and stump removal.

Our Tree Removal Experts
Ridge trees take the wind first and lose limbs over driveways and roofs. We thin the crown so wind passes through instead of pushing, and clear the branches back off the house.
Tree pruning, explained
On a slope a stump left in the ground is a trip hazard and holds water. We grind it right down and rake the area back level.
What stump grinding costs
Steep ground and wet ground need different trees. We choose for the part of town you are actually in, and plant at the correct depth so the roots hold on a slope.
How we plant
Ridge lots and brook-side corners grow in thick. We clear the brush and scrub, take out the leaning timber, and grind the stumps.
More on land clearing
Wind comes over the ridge and hits Green Brook properties hard. Storm nights are when we are busiest here. Call any hour and we will come.
More on storm responseGreen Brook’s Chapter 24 sets a lower bar than the towns around it. A permit is needed to cut, remove or top any tree of 4 inches or more measured 4.5 feet up, and just 2 inches for ornamental species on the Township’s preferred list. Copying a neighboring town’s six-inch figure would get you the wrong answer here.
The fee is $25, and there is no fee at all for a hazardous tree once a certified tree expert has certified it with photographs. Two allowances matter most to homeowners: three trees in any 36 months can come off a residential property without replacement (the permit is still required), and any tree whose trunk sits within 15 feet of the main house on a single-family lot is exempt. Trees already brought down by a storm are exempt too.

I had a very tall pine tree next to my house that needed to come down. You could actually see the roots lifting up the ground around it in strong winds.
They were very careful of structures under the 2 trees they removed. Very neat and clean work. Strongly recommend them
