Tree Service in Summit, NJ

Summit sits at the crest of the ridge, which is why it gets hit first in a storm and holds some of the largest specimen trees around. Tree service in Summit, NJ is structural pruning on those, and rigged removals on the rest.

A Crew for Summit’s Full Range of Tree Work

Big specimen trees on close-built lots are not a place to find out a contractor is uninsured. Wayne's carries general liability and workers' compensation, is registered as NJTC No. 806860, and employs Peter Ahlert under operator license LTCO No. 565. Dylan Ahlert owns the company.

Summit sits at the crest of the ridge, which means it gets hit early and hard in a storm and it holds some of the largest specimen trees in the area. Older neighborhoods here are built close, so removals are rigged down in pieces — there is rarely room to fell anything.

Our Tree Services in Summit, NJ

At Wayne’s Tree Service, we provide professional, affordable, and fully insured tree care for both residential and commercial properties in Summit, NJ.

Tree Removal Service

Tree Removal

Storm-damaged trees are the ones that catch people out. A cracked union or a torn limb looks survivable from the ground, but the wound lets decay in and the tree fails in the next hard wind. We look at the union, not just the canopy.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

Structural pruning on a young tree is the cheapest work you will ever have done. Correcting a competing leader at ten years costs a fraction of removing the failed half of that tree at thirty.

Stump Grinding and Removal

Stump Grinding & Removal

A decaying stump is a reservoir for root-rot fungi, and those do not stay put. If the tree came out because of disease, leaving the stump next to healthy trees of the same species is a bad trade.

Grinding vs. full removal
Tree & Shrub Planting service

Tree & Shrub Planting

A new tree needs watering through its first two summers, not its first two weeks. Most replacements we are called out to look at did not die of disease — they died of a dry August in year two.

Land Clearing Service

Land Clearing

Selective clearing is usually the better call. Taking out the poor and the dying while keeping the sound specimens leaves you with usable ground and a property that still looks like something.

24/7 Emergency Tree Service

A tree on a house has to be lifted off, not cut off. Cutting away the wrong piece first lets the rest drop, and the second impact is usually worse than the first. That is what the crane is for.

Summit’s Tree Permit — Know the Current 12-Inch Rule

Summit changed its tree rules recently, and a lot of homeowners — and even some tree companies — are still working off the old numbers. The city repealed and replaced its tree ordinance (Chapter 29) in June 2024.

  • You need a permit before removing any private tree 12 inches or more in diameter (measured about 4.5 feet up the trunk) — down from the old, higher threshold.
  • Applications go to the Department of Community Services; an inspection happens within about 10 business days.
  • An approved permit is good for one calendar year.

We keep up with this so you don’t get caught out. We’ll measure your tree, tell you whether it crosses the 12-inch line, and explain what the city’s inspection will look for — before any cutting. Filing the application is on you; we don’t file permits. But you’ll have the current rules, not last year’s. For storm-damaged or hazardous trees, we document the condition for the city and your insurer.
