Wayne's is a family company: Dylan Ahlert owns it, his father Peter Ahlert holds New Jersey's operator license, LTCO No. 565. The business is registered as NJTC No. 806860 with the Board of Tree Experts, veteran-owned, and insured for general liability and workers' compensation.
Branchburg runs from working farmland to newer subdivisions, and we have worked both since 1993 — the oak ridges, the South Branch floodplain, and the estate lots. Open ground here usually means we can set the crane up and take a large tree down in one clean operation instead of climbing it, which is faster and safer for everyone.

Where the access allows it, the crane does the job in fewer, heavier pieces. Less time with a climber in the tree, less time with weight swinging over the house, and a faster clean-up. It is the safest way we have to take down a big declining tree.
Deadwood is the first thing to come out. Dead limbs have no flex left in them, so they snap in wind that live wood rides out — and they tend to be directly over the paths, drives and patios people use.
Cut a live tree flush and it often fights back. Species like maple and locust throw suckers from the stump and roots for years, and each one has to be cut again. Grinding ends it.
A tree in the right place pays you back — shade on the west side of a house measurably cuts summer cooling, and a screen planting does more for privacy than a fence at half the height.
Access decides the price more than acreage does. If the equipment can reach the work the job is straightforward; if everything has to be dragged out by hand, that is the real cost.
The dangerous part of a storm is often what did not fall. Hung-up limbs come down later without warning, frequently on whoever went out to start clearing up.
Branchburg Measures Trees Around, Not Across — and It Matters
Branchburg is the one town near us that regulates by circumference rather than diameter, which catches people out. Under Article X of the Land Development Ordinance a residential lot stays exempt while you remove no more than 10 trees in any two-year period, and while each tree is under 75 inches around — roughly 24 inches across.
Cross either line and you need a tree removal permit from the Zoning Officer. Dead, dying, diseased and dangerously leaning trees are exempt, as are nurseries, orchards and Christmas tree farms, and land actively farmed under a filed tree inventory. Non-residential lots have a tighter test: a permit for more than five trees, or for any single tree 55 inches around.
Residential exemption: up to 10 trees per two-year period
Sizes are circumference — 75 inches around is roughly 24 inches across
Trees are regulated from 19 inches around (about 6 inches across)
Exempt: dead, dying, diseased or hazardous trees
Non-residential: permit for more than five trees, or any tree 55 inches around

Excellent crew that expertly lollipopped a huge oak to get it above my power lines. They also pruned a silver oak for me. The work was professional and the cleanup was perfect. Highly recommend Wayne’s.

We needed to remove a tree near the road and power lines. Dylan gave us a very reasonable quote and was extremely accommodating with scheduling to avoid working when the lawn was wet.
