Licensed Tree Experts in Bridgewater, NJ

Dylan Ahlert owns Wayne's and came up through the crew before taking it over, which is why he still walks the job before pricing it. Peter Ahlert holds the state operator license, LTCO No. 565. We are registered as NJTC No. 806860 and carry general liability and workers' compensation.

In Bridgewater that license matters more than in most towns, because Chapter 21-11 puts a permit between you and some removals. We tell you up front whether your tree needs one, handle the paperwork, and call in NJ One Call for utility locates before any stump grinding or clearing. We have worked this township since 1993, and we quote the permit and the tree in the same visit.

Our Residential and Commercial Tree Services in Bridgewater, NJ

Wayne’s Tree Service handles the full range of tree work in Bridgewater — removals, crane-assisted takedowns, pruning, stump grinding, emergency storm response, and land clearing. Whatever the job, you get a written price before we start.

Tree Removal Service

Tree Removal

A leaning tree is not automatically dangerous — plenty of trees lean their whole lives. What matters is whether the lean is new, and whether the soil on the high side is cracked or lifting. That means the root plate is moving, and that tree comes down on its own schedule.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

Branches resting on a roof are a slow leak waiting to happen. They hold moisture against the shingles, drop debris into the gutters, and give squirrels a bridge into your attic. Clearance pruning solves all three at once.

How we prune
Stump Grinding and Removal

Stump Grinding & Removal

Cut a live tree flush and it often fights back. Species like maple and locust throw suckers from the stump and roots for years, and each one has to be cut again. Grinding ends it.

Grinding vs. full removal
Tree & Shrub Planting service

Tree & Shrub Planting

A new tree needs watering through its first two summers, not its first two weeks. Most replacements we are called out to look at did not die of disease — they died of a dry August in year two.

Land Clearing Service

Land Clearing

We grind the stumps as part of the clearing rather than leaving a field of them. Ground you cannot mow, drive on or build over is not really cleared.

24/7 Emergency Tree Service

Response time is the whole service. We answer the phone ourselves at any hour, and being local to these counties is the difference between a crew tonight and a crew on Thursday.

Bridgewater's Tree Removal Ordinance — What Ordinance 21-11 Protects

Bridgewater regulates tree removal on private property under Ordinance 21-11, “Removal and Preservation of Trees,” administered by the Township Engineer. A Tree Removal Permit — written authorization from the Engineer — is required before removing regulated trees, and the application is filed with the Engineering Department (908-725-6300 ext. 5500).The part Bridgewater does differently: protected trees.

Most towns key everything to a single diameter. Bridgewater layers a set of “specimen” categories on top, and any tree meeting one of them is protected regardless of how ordinary it looks: A tree greater than 36 inches DBH A coniferous tree greater than 100 feet tall A tree of any size listed as rare, threatened or endangered by the NJ DEP A dogwood (Cornus florida) greater than 4 inches DBH A tree 100 or more years of age, as determined by an arboristThat fourth and fifth one catch people.

A modest dogwood in the front yard, or a big old oak that has simply been there longer than the house, can be protected even though neither is unusually large — and removing one without a permit is a violation.Replacement scales steeply. Where mitigation applies, Bridgewater’s replacement schedule rises with the size of the tree removed — brackets run 8–15 inches, 16–24, 25–36, and 37 inches and over, with the largest trees requiring many replacement trees each.

I’ve used Wayne’s twice and will continue to use them for my tree removals. One of the trees was in a tough location (sandwiched between my house and neighbors) and no issue bringing it down.
