Trusted Tree Service in Tewksbury, NJ

On farm and village property alike, the questions are the same: who is licensed, and who is covered. Peter Ahlert holds operator license LTCO No. 565. Wayne's is registered as NJTC No. 806860, owned by Dylan Ahlert, and insured for liability and workers' compensation.

Tewksbury is rural Hunterdon — hills, horse farms, and villages with genuinely old trees in them. Large properties usually give us room to work the crane, which is far safer than climbing a big declining tree. Most of what we do out here is field edges, paddock lines and the trees around old farmhouses.

Our Residential and Commercial Tree Services in Tewksbury, NJ

Tewksbury’s rolling Highlands terrain holds mature stands of red oak, sugar maple, hickory, and ash across horse farms, historic estates, and large wooded lots in USDA zone 6b.

Wayne’s Tree Service handles crane-assisted removal of tall hardwoods on tight estate lots, sectional dismantling near homes and power lines, canopy reduction for storm preparedness, stump grinding below grade, and preventive pruning — backed by 24/7 emergency response when nor’easters and ice storms hit the township’s exposed ridgelines.

Tree Removal Service

Tree Removal

Storm-damaged trees are the ones that catch people out. A cracked union or a torn limb looks survivable from the ground, but the wound lets decay in and the tree fails in the next hard wind. We look at the union, not just the canopy.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

A limb hanging over the sidewalk or the neighbor's drive is a liability question as much as a tree question. If it is dead and you knew, the answer after it falls is not a comfortable one.

Stump Grinding and Removal

Stump Grinding & Removal

The grindings do not have to leave. Mixed with soil they backfill the hole and settle in over a season, or we haul the lot away and leave you clean ground — whichever suits what you are doing next.

Tree & Shrub Planting service

Tree & Shrub Planting

Where you plant matters as much as what. Too close to a foundation, a walk or a septic field and you are choosing between the tree and the structure later on. We site it so that choice never comes up.

Land Clearing Service

Land Clearing

Overgrown ground does not stay overgrown quietly. Vines pull down good trees, brush hides the failing ones, and by the time you can see the problem you are dealing with several at once.

24/7 Emergency Tree Service

Making a site safe and clearing it fully are two different jobs. At two in the morning the first is what matters, and we would rather stabilize it properly and come back in daylight than rush the rest.

Tree Removal Permits & Local Rules in Tewksbury

Tewksbury regulates tree removal under Chapter 16.20 of the Township Code (Tree Clearing and Removal), adopted in Ordinance 08-2014. The ordinance defines a regulated “tree” as any deciduous tree with a trunk diameter greater than 4 inches measured 4½ feet above the ground, or any coniferous tree with a trunk greater than 4 inches in diameter or taller than 6 feet.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Tewksbury?

A permit is required to remove a regulated tree unless the tree or property is exempt. The most common exemptions are:

  • A residential lot of 1½ acres or less with a dwelling on it — except in the Local Historic Districts of Oldwick, Mountainville, and Pottersville, where the exemption does not apply
  • Any dead, diseased, or hazardous tree likely to endanger life or property
  • Trees within 20 feet of a proposed home, well, septic system, or accessory structure
  • Trees within 10 feet of a planned residential driveway
  • Trees removed for utility installation, or on a working farm or nursery

Permit fee and timeline

  • $25 for an application covering 5 acres or less, plus $5 for each additional acre (no maximum)
  • The Township Zoning Officer acts on a complete application within 10 business days
  • Removing a non-exempt tree without a permit requires replacing it at a 1:1 ratio and can carry a fine of up to $2,000 per tree

We needed to remove a tree near the road and power lines. Dylan gave us a very reasonable quote and was extremely accommodating with scheduling to avoid working when the lawn was wet.
