Lebanon is a small Hunterdon borough in the Highlands — steep grades, rocky soil, and mature hardwoods standing close to historic homes. Rocky ground makes stump work harder and root systems shallower than people expect, both of which change how a tree behaves in a storm.

Our Tree Services in Lebanon, NJ

At Wayne’s Tree Service, we proudly serve the Lebanon community with safe, affordable, and expert-level tree care.

Tree Removal Service

Tree Removal

A leaning tree is not automatically dangerous — plenty of trees lean their whole lives. What matters is whether the lean is new, and whether the soil on the high side is cracked or lifting. That means the root plate is moving, and that tree comes down on its own schedule.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

Structural pruning on a young tree is the cheapest work you will ever have done. Correcting a competing leader at ten years costs a fraction of removing the failed half of that tree at thirty.

Stump Grinding and Removal

Stump Grinding & Removal

How deep we grind depends on what you want the space for. Six to ten inches below grade is enough to lay sod or seed; if you are replanting or pouring a patio, we take more out and clear the root plate as well.

How stump grinding works
Tree & Shrub Planting service

Tree & Shrub Planting

Autumn planting gives roots a head start that spring planting does not. The soil is still warm, the top growth has stopped demanding water, and the tree spends the winter establishing instead of surviving.

Land Clearing Service

Land Clearing

Bare ground moves. Where we clear on any kind of slope we think about what the rain will do to it, because the erosion problem is more expensive to fix than the clearing was.

24/7 Emergency Tree Service

A trunk across the driveway is not just inconvenient — it can put you on the wrong side of an ambulance route. We clear access first and deal with the rest of the tree afterwards.

03 Local Rules

Lebanon Borough Adopted Its Tree Ordinance in May 2024

Lebanon Borough — the small Hunterdon borough, not Lebanon Township, which has entirely different rules — adopted Ordinance 2024-02 in May 2024. A tree removal permit application goes to the Borough Clerk for any non-street tree of 6 inches DBH or more, or any street tree from 2.5 inches, and the review fee is $25.

The allowance most residents use is the exemption for removing fewer than four trees an acre within a rolling five-year window. Hazard trees and invasive species carry no fee and no replacement, but you still file the application and the Shade Tree Committee verifies the claim. The ordinance also cites the Right to Farm Act directly, and exempts any tree damaging a sanitary sewer lateral once the Sewer Authority Engineer confirms it in writing.

  • Application to the Borough Clerk from 6 inches DBH (2.5 inches for street trees)
  • Fee: $25 review fee per application
  • Exemption: fewer than four trees per acre over a rolling five-year period
  • Hazard trees and invasive species: no fee or replacement, but still verified
  • Trees damaging a sewer lateral are exempt with the Sewer Authority Engineer's confirmation
