Small borough, tight streets, real insurance. Wayne's carries general liability and workers' compensation, is registered with the NJ Board of Tree Experts as NJTC No. 806860, and employs Peter Ahlert under operator license LTCO No. 565. Dylan Ahlert owns the company.
Rocky Hill is small and historic, with houses close to the road and mature trees standing between them. Nothing gets dropped here — it comes down in small pieces, roped, with the ground protected. One tree failing in a borough this size can close the main road, which is why we answer the phone at any hour.

Tree Removal
If a tree is a known hazard and it falls on your neighbor's property, that is generally your problem, not theirs. A written assessment before anything happens is worth having, and it is part of what we give you with the quote.
We prune to ANSI A300 — no topping, no stripping the inner growth. Topping a tree does not make it safer; it forces weak, fast regrowth that is more likely to fail in five years than what you started with.
How deep we grind depends on what you want the space for. Six to ten inches below grade is enough to lay sod or seed; if you are replanting or pouring a patio, we take more out and clear the root plate as well.
The most common planting mistake is the species, not the technique. A tree that is charming at six feet can be a problem at forty, and the time to think about mature spread and root run is before it goes in the ground.
Response time is the whole service. We answer the phone ourselves at any hour, and being local to these counties is the difference between a crew tonight and a crew on Thursday.
Rocky Hill Asks for an Application on Almost Every Tree
Rocky Hill adopted its tree removal and replacement rules in May 2024, and they are tighter than most boroughs its size. Under Chapter 181 you submit a tree removal application to the Zoning Officer for any non-street tree 6 inches DBH or more, or any street tree from 2.5 inches, and no tree comes down until the Borough has approved it.
Unlike some neighboring boroughs, Rocky Hill did not adopt a small-homeowner carve-out — there is no allowance for taking a few trees without applying. The cost is mostly nothing: the two smallest categories carry no fee, then $25 and $50 for the largest. Replacement runs from one to four trees at a minimum 1.5 inch caliper, planted within twelve months and watched for two years. Hazard trees are exempt from both fee and replacement.
Application required from 6 inches DBH (2.5 inches for street trees)
No small-homeowner exemption — unlike neighboring towns
Fee: none for the two smallest size categories, then $25 and $50
Replacement: 1 to 4 trees at 1.5 inch caliper minimum, monitored for two years
Hazard trees: no fee and no replacement required
Administered by the Borough Zoning Officer, 609-924-7445

Wayne’s Tree Service is amazing! Friendly, professional, excellent service. I will be calling them again! I have pin oaks that are 80-90 years old, and they took great care with the pruning.
